Alyeska Resort, Alaska

Alyeska resort is one of the best in Alaska. It has a top elevation of 2,751 feet and 2,501 vertical drop. It gets an average of 631 inches of snow annually. It is rated in the top 25 ski resorts in North America by Skiing Magazine. There is 1000 acres of skiable trails in this resort. The resort offers instruction for beginning skiers and snowboarding.

The ski season begins in mid-November and runs through mid-April. In April, there is sixteen hours of daylight but during December, there are only about seven hours of daylight. This means you will have to do some nighttime skiing if you want to get in a lot of hours on the slopes.

In this area you will see snow-capped mountains, hanging glaciers, and the famous Northern Lights. There are sixty-eight slopes and nine lifts which include six chair lifts, two surface lifts, and one cable Alyeska Resortcar line. There are slopes for beginners, intermediate skiers, and experts with the majority of the trails for intermediate skiers.

Also in this area is the Glacier Tubing Park. It features two lanes of terrain and a surface lift. There is also a great area for snowboarding in the Alyeska Terrain Park. Other winter activities includee ocean cruise tours, dog sledding, ice climbing, back country skiing, and polar bear viewing.

The hotels in the area provide good lodging and dining. Most have nighttime activities but there are other places for nighttime activity in the area that is not associated with the hotels.

One of the suggested hotels is the Alyeska Prince Hotel. It is located 45 miles south of Anchorage in the resort town of Girdwood. There are 307 rooms with many amenities and fine dining.
